Homecoming theme to be selected by students

For the third year in a row, students have the opportunity to select Sam Houston State University’s homecoming theme by popular vote, and the person who submits the winning idea will collect $200.

The 2007 Homecoming Steering Committee is currently taking nominations for this fall’s annual event, and students, faculty and staff can share their theme ideas by placing them in one of the boxes located in the Lowman Student Center or submitting them online. The deadline for nominations is Friday, March 30.

Nomination boxes are located in the Lowman Student Center at the student activities office (room 328) and the information desk on the second floor. Nominations can also be submitted online at http://www.shsu.edu/homecoming/.

Following a review of the submitted themes, a homecoming subcommittee will select finalists for a student vote to take place at the same time as the Student Government Association elections on April 10-11, and the $200 cash prize will be presented to the person with the winning idea. In case of a tie there will be a drawing to determine the recipient of the prize.

“The Homecoming Steering Committee wants input from the students,” said Cindy Truax, coordinator of homecoming promotion. “We want their ideas for homecoming themes and then we hope they’ll participate in the voting process in April.”
