Freshman phenom brings home three gold as Sam Houston State dominates at Stephen F. Austin Dogwood Invitational

(SID) – Freshman sensation Jessica Fisher won the 100 meters and was a member of winning 4×100 and 4×400 relays to lead the women and Chris Cralle posted first place finishes in both the hammer and discus to pace the men as Sam Houston State dominated at the Stephen F. Austin Dogwood Invitational Track and Field meet Friday and Saturday.

Allison Ferries set a school record with her runner-up finish in the steeplechase (11:01.91).

“Stephen F. Austin will be hosting the Southland Conference championships this year and we wanted to take advantage of this meet to get familiar with the facility,” SHSU head coach Curtis Collier said. “On the men’s side, Chris Cralle performed well and Michael Courtney, Chris Edison, Morten Munkholm, and Matt Adkisson all did their usual good job for us. Freshman Josh Schwartz is really coming on in the pole vault and Keith Edmond performed well in the steeplechase.”

“The women dominated the meet,” Collier said. “The distance group of Allison Ferries, Whitney Rister, and Devyn Mitchell had great meets and will be a factor at the Southland Conference meet. Jennie Sewell bettered her NCAA regional qualifying mark in the pole vault.”
