After shutting out the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders Friday night for his fifth win of the season, Jesse Marshall was named Southland Conference baseball “Pitcher of the Week” making him the second Bearkat pitcher to earn the award this season.
Marshall had eight strikeouts while allowing just three hits in the Bearkats 3-0 victory over the Islanders at Sanders Stadium to improve his record to 5-1 on the season.
The senior left-hander from Montgomery has started seven games for the Bearkats and currently boasts a 1.90 ERA.
With the win, Sam Houston State improves to third place in the West division of the Southland Conference behind undefeated UT-San Antonio and Texas State.
First baseman Karl Krailo was also recognized this week, earning honorable mention in the SLC “Hitter of the Week” category for his 3-for-4 performance in the Bearkats’ 17-6 victory over the Islanders on Saturday.
The Bearkats next home series is set for this Friday at 6:30 p.m. against UT-Arlington. The Mavericks currently sit at the bottom of the conference standings and are looking for their first conference win of the season.
