(SID) – After losing the first set and down 4-2 in the second set, Patty Manzur battled back to win the number five singles in three sets and provide the decisive point for Sam Houston State University as the Bearkat women’s tennis team edged Lamar 4-3 Sunday afternoon.
Less than an hour after the victory over the Cardinals, the Bearkats blanked McNeese State 7-0 in a match originally scheduled in Lake Charles Saturday but moved to Beaumont Sunday due to rain.
The doubleheader victory Sunday upped Sam Houston State’s season mark to 10-3. The Bearkats stand in second place in the Southland Conference women’s tennis standings with a 7-1 league record.
Lata Assudani provided the Bearkats a singles victory at number two and Brooke Mills and Peta Taylor teamed for the winning point in doubles.
The Bearkats will meet conference leaders Southeastern Louisiana this Saturday, April 7, at 10 a.m. at the McAdams Tennis Center.
The 7-1 mark is Sam Houston’s best Southland season start ever.
