Bearkats take fourth at SLC tourney

The Sam Houston State men’s golf team earned fourth place at the 44th annual Southland Conference men’s golf tournament on Wednesday for their highest finish at the competition since taking fourth in 2001.

The Bearkats passed Texas State and Texas-Arlington for the fourth place spot, earning a final team score of 884.

Lamar came away with the Southland Conference Championship title for the second consecutive year behind the first place finish of Dawie Van Der Walt, who shot a final 13-under 203 for the individual championship.

Robert Gwinn came in 10th in the individual standings for the top finish for the Bearkats with a 1-over 217, followed by Brandon Frankhouser (223), Beau Willis (225) and Fergal Rafferty (225).
