Terry, Malone enter the NFL as free agents

(SID) – Running back D. D. Terry and wide receiver Michael Malone from Sam Houston State University have signed free agent contracts with NFL teams.

Terry has become a Jacksonville Jaguar while Malone has joined the Miami Dolphins.

The pair helped lead Sam Houston State to a runner-up finish in the Southland Conference in 2006. The Bearkats had been picked no higher than sixth in any of the preseason polls.

Terry rushed for a school record 1,328 yards last season in 10 games. A reserve linebacker his sophomore and junior seasons after transferring from Kilgore Junior College, Terry got his chance on offense last year after injuries and graduation left the Bearkats with only one experienced running back.

Terry earned Southland Conference “Offensive Player of the Year” and first team All-Southland honors and was one of 16 semifinalists for the Walter Payton Award which goes annually to the top offensive player in the NCAA Division I football championship subdivision.

Malone caught 23 passes for 250 yards and four touchdowns last season, starting every game at wide receiver. He came to Sam Houston State as a transfer from Virginia Tech. As a junior in 2005, he caught 15 passes for 196 yards and one touchdown.
