Dear Sudent Body,
For those of you returning to campus, you may have noticed that a few things have changed. There is a nice plaza in the center of campus that is almost finished, the football field has new turf, and the construction on campus continues. The student body has also grown quite a bit, with over 16,000 students now studying here.
The Student Government has changed too. In order to better serve students, we have restructured ourselves. What has not changed is the Student Government’s willingness to help students and advocate your issues at all levels.
We have been working hard over the summer to bring you some exciting new things. We’ve worked with the City of Huntsville and the Main Street Project to bring you the Downtown Music Project which will be a monthly concert series featuring local bands in the Old Town Theatre. We are working on a new rivalry trophy with SFA that you will hear more about a little later. We have also been working with the administration reviewing safety procedures in response to the Virginia Tech incident.
SGA is always looking for new members. If you are interested in joining us, we will be having an ice cream social at our first meeting, which is Tuesday at 6pm in LSC 315. To join SGA, you need to attend two Senate meetings, two committee meetings, and be voted into the Senate. If you’re a true freshman, you can still get involved, but you won’t be able to become a senator until Spring.
If you are new here, then I encourage you to get involved on campus. The college experience is like many other things, you get what you put in. Staying in your dorm room the whole time will not only leave you bored, but also you will be missing some of the best parts of the college experience. So, join an organization, go to the games, and get involved!
