Local businesses and campus organizations made their mark on campus Wednesday during a combination of Bearkat Mania and assorted student presentations in the mall area.
Bearkat Mania, which KSAM operations manager Brooke Addams said is a long-time tradition at Sam Houston, included representatives from local restaurants, churches, banks, Planned Parenthood and other establishments.
“It’s basically a big trade show to welcome the Bearkats back to town,” Addams said. “The representatives here can’t sell anything, but they can tell students about their businesses and distribute coupons and gifts.”
Addams said the representatives got back what they put into the event, and that some of the businesses represented went far above and beyond what was expected of them.
“We’ve had some businesses give away thousands of bags and others are giving away a dorm-sized refrigerator or a home theater system, both of which are really good things for students to have,” she said. “This is a fantastic event for everyone involved.”
In the mall area, organizations including the Campus Callers, iDrive and Rec. Sports had stands set up to provide information and promote their activities.
Bearkat Mania was organized by KSAM and sponsored by Orange Pride. A portion of the proceeds from the event went back to the Orange Pride organization.
