Channel 7 News Team to hold auditions

If you have ever dreamed of being the next Katie Couric or Matt Lauer, then KSHU Channel 7 may be your stepping stone into the world of broadcast news.

Channel 7 is holding auditions for the weekly newscasts Aug. 29 at 5:30 p.m. in the Robert Eubanks Studio, located on the first floor of the Dan Rather Communication Building and home of Sam Houston State University’s television station, KSHU Channel 7.

Mass communication majors, as well as other students in different departments on campus, can use this opportunity to strengthen their skills and gain a further knowledge of criteria that they could potentially use in the future.

“Anchors receive hands-on experience in a newsroom, the opportunity to make contacts throughout the community and improve their public speaking skills, which are helpful in any career,” said LeAnn Muns,” a consultant in the Mass Communication Department.

Applicants should dress in professional attire and be well versed in local events, read well and be able to connect with the viewing audience.

News 7 airs live on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6 p.m. on Cox Cable Channel 7. News 7 also airs the only college run Spanish newscast in the state of Texas on Wednesday’s at 6 p.m.

Spanish newscast tryouts will be held on Aug. 30 at 4:30 p.m. in the Dan Rather Communication Building.

“Participating in the on campus news program gives students a hands on experience to those interested in a future journalism career while meeting new people with your same interest and having fun while learning,” said senior News Director Lila Hollin.
