Bearkats go 2-2 at home in Domino’s Pizza Invitational

Freshman Brittanie Wallace sparked a come from behind victory in the first game, but South Dakota State bounced back to pull out the next three games to edge Sam Houston State in the final match of the tournament and earn the runner-up spot in the Domino’s Pizza/SHSU Invitational Saturday.

Tulane, with a perfect 4-0 record in the event, took the team championship.

Cynthia Yarotsky led Sam Houston with 20 kills while Sarah Hazlewood and Launa McClung each added 11. McClung led the Bearkats with five blocks

Yarotsky and Anna Ferguson were selected to the Domino’s Pizza/SHSU Invitational All-Tournament team. Unfortunately, Ferguson went down with a knee injury Friday and her status for the rest of the season is doubtful.

“Losing Anna leaves a big hole in my team, but I was proud of the way they fought today,” SHSU head coach Brenda Gray said. “We had a good effort in the victory over Louisiana-Lafayette this morning and both teams fought hard tonight.”
