Jerry Martin, one of the inmates that escaped from the Wynne Unit and suspected killer of officer Susan Canfield, attempted suicide early yesterday morning.
According to Public Information Officer Michelle Lyons, Martin attempted suicide at the Estelle unit just before 5:30 a.m. by attaching his boxers to a light fixture in order to hang himself.
Lyons said Martin was transported to Huntsville Memorial Hospital due to redness and swelling on his neck.
Four armed officers transported Martin to the Hospital.
