The Sam Houston State men’s golf team held off a final round charge by Louisiana-Lafayette to win their first tournament team title of the 2007-08 season at the “Battle of the Bend” at Cypress Bend Golf Club.
The championship marked the men’s golf team’s sixth tournament team title in the past two seasons. Sam Houston won five tournaments last year including a victory at the 2006 “Battle of the Bend” event.
The Bearkats put together a 54-hole score of 286-295-306–887 while the Ragin’ Cajuns totaled 284-301-303–888. Christopher Carson and Beau Willis led the Bearkats as they tied for seventh in the individual medalist standings. Carson shot a 71-73-78–222 while Willis scored 71-75-76–222. Brandon Frankhouser placed 10th with a 70-73-80–223. Fergal Rafferty was 11th at 74-76-74–224. Scott Kelly finished 24th shooting a 78-74-78–230.
