After ending the season with a disappointing 5-11 conference mark, the Sam Houston State women’s volleyball team faces a chance for redemption this weekend when they play No.1-seeded Lamar in the Southland Conference Post-Tournament this Friday.
In their first meeting of the season, the Cardinals defeated the Bearkats on Oct. 26 in Johnson Coliseum in three sets, 30-26 30-16 30-20. The Cardinals earned first place in the SLC-East and finished the season 24-8 with a 15-1 conference mark while the Bearkats finished seventh in the SLC-West.
The Cardinals finished the year with the best hitting percentage in the conference and took top honors for team kills with 1,833 kills on the season.
Yet the Bearkats have a hefty arsenal of their own, including Cynthia Yartosky, who leads the conference in kills with 431.
The Bearkats are scheduled to face-off against the Cardinals in the tournament quarterfinals on Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the Convocation Center at the University of Texas-San Antonio.
This season marks the thirteenth SLC Tournament appearance for the Bearkats, who won the tournament championship in 1993 and 1996.
