Career seminars still available for students

What was intended to be a seminar for all students interested in techniques for interviewing became a more of an informal one-on-one discussion about giving a winning interview. Career Services held its “Successful Interviewing Techniques” workshop last Wednesday in the Dow Career Information Library, but only one person showed up. “We usually have between 10 to 15 students come to the workshops,” said Meagan Moorman, graduate assistant and facilitator of the workshop. The seminar was organized to inform students of proper attire, general interview etiquette and how to handle difficult interview questions. Those who did not attend missed the opportunity to learn some of the do’s and don’ts of interviewing as well as what questions to ask. The department has 13 more workshops scheduled for the semester that will cover everything from effective resume writing to getting the most from the career fair and salary negotiation. “We want to help students and alumni with the all of the aspects of the job search,” Moorman said. “I got tips on the types of questions to expect,” said Patricia Wilkin, a freshman broadcast journalism major. “This will help me prepare for my upcoming RA interview,” she added. Those who could not attend this workshop will have another opportunity on March 27. For more information on the services provided by the department or dates of the scheduled workshops go to the Career Services link on the Sam Houston State Web site.
