Ramirez scores 15 in Kats victory over Mavericks

DeLuis Ramirez nailed 7-of-8 charity shots and brought in a team-high 15 points as the Bearkats defeated UT-Arlington on the road 79-65 on Wednesday night.With the win, Sam Houston State picked up its third 20-win season under head coach Bob Marlin.The Bearkats pulled ahead for a comfortable 42-32 lead entering the half, and scored seven unanswered points in the second before the Mavericks were able to find their offense.The Bearkats gained their biggest lead with 6:24 left to play on a pair of free-throws from Ramirez to put the score at 72-50. The Kats nailed their final points of the game on a free-throw by Domas Kvedys to take the 79-65 victory..Ramirez also led in rebounds with 11.Overall, Sam Houston State shot 90.3 percent from the free-throw line, hitting 28-of-31 from the line.With the win, the Kats move to 8-5 in Southland Conference play and 20-6 overall. Sam Houston State is scheduled to return home on Saturday to play Texas State at 7 p.m.
