Volleyball team to sell roses for Valentine’s Day

The SHSU Volleyball team will be selling roses for last-minute Valentine’s Day shoppers in the student union. Roses will be available from 9 a.m. on Thursday through 2 p.m., but Assistant Coach Joe Lind said the fundraiser could last longer if needed. Students have a choice of red or pink roses already in a vase with water. The cost is $7 per rose. “It’s kind of nice for students if they can’t get to the floral shop for their boyfriend or girlfriend,” Lind said. This is the second year the team has offered the fundraiser. The sale last year brought the team several hundred dollars. It is not one of the team’s major events, but it does help provide money for equipment, uniforms and travel expenses. In spite of cold temperatures last year, senior Megan McNamara, setter for the volleyball team, said the team sold more roses than originally anticipated and believes this year’s sale will bring in more buyers. “I’m actually more excited about doing it this year. Last year, there was all the construction around the Lowman Student Center and now it’s a lot prettier and open,” McNamara said.Pre-orders are available until Wednesday, Feb. 13, through any Volleyball team member or by calling Coach Lind at (936) 295-3596.
