Visitors galore: March 19, it’s time for Saturday@Sam

Every semester, the John R. Ragsdale Visitor and Alumni Center offers a “Saturdays@Sam” session to introduce prospective students to the many facets of the Sam Houston campus.

“It’s a campus preview day. The big thing is that we offer this free to whoever wants to come, no matter what age you are,” said Lyndsey Gorski, visitor center counselor, said. “It’s just a great program to get a lot of questions answered about college in general and learn a lot of amazing info about Sam.”

This semester’s session will be held on March 29, beginning at 8 a.m. with registration and check-in at the Johnson Coliseum, and a 9 a.m. opening session.

The program includes two academic sessions in the Haney Auditorium and an Organizations Fair and information desks in the Johnson Coliseum. The information desks portion includes many on-campus offices and organizations, such as Admissions, Bearkat OneCard Office, Career Services, Computer Services and Financial aid.

There will also be a forensic science open house from 11 a.m. to noon and residence halls open house and guided campus tours from 11:00 a.m.- 1:30 p.m.

Participants will also have time to have a meal at Caf Belvin, Einstein’s Bagels, or the Paw Print food court, as well as food sold in the Johnson Coliseum.

Agriculture students have an opportunity to tour Gibbs Ranch from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

The Sam Center will be doing academic advising for accepted students for next semester, or to answer any outstanding specific questions.

The event is largely staged by volunteers. This week there were meetings for potential volunteers to sign up and get information. There will be a final meeting next Tuesday, March 25 at noon in the John R. Ragsdale Visitor and Alumni Center auditorium.

“Volunteers are very important. They make the program. If we didn’t have volunteers the program wouldn’t be possible,” Gorski said. “We need as much help as we can get and volunteers giving their time for free is awesome. They’re what make the program go.”
