Organization brings sunshine to a cloudy day

A student organization named Project Sunshine hosted an Easter egg hunt for their members and families last Thursday at Family Faith Church. The organization provides support services for special needs children between the ages of 3-23 and their families.

The event included decorations, food, games, arts and crafts, and candy. The children made Easter bags, which were used during the egg hunt. The participants played games and enjoyed pizza, drinks and cookies.

The grand finale of the event was the Easter egg hunt. The children hunted eggs which consisted of small toys and candy.

“I enjoy helping others, and making people feel special,” Cara Cesari, a member of Project Sunshine said.

The organization hosts various activities including bowling, softball and “Challenge Your Sports,” an event where the children are able to play numerous sports and display their athletic talents.

“Project Sunshine allows parents with special needs children some downtime,”

Susan Williams, a parent who participates in Project Sunshine events said. “It gives children and parents a social network.”

The parents of the special needs children are able to enjoy the benefits of having an organization such as this. The events provided by Project Sunshine provide more than just support.

“We appreciate Project Sunshine because it gives us, as parents, a break,” Kris Phillips, a parent of Project Sunshine said. “Children are not abnormal here, and that allows them to be just a regular kid.”
