Art Department gears up for juried show

An art extravaganza will attract people to the Gladdis Geeslin Gallery to view student artwork that has been selected by an artist outside of the university.

The gallery committee chose Kirk Demarais as a juror to select art presented in the gallery to be chosen for this event. The juror, Demaris, is an author, director and an animated e-cards creator, according to Today@Sam.

The reception for the 9th annual Juried Student Exhibition will be held tonight in the Gladdis Geeslin Gallery from 5 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 24. Also part of the night will be an awards ceremony and scholarship reception.

An “open studio” will allow visitors to walk through the studios and see unfinished pieces. This provides an informal look into the artists’ studio and serves as a window into their environment. A “rejected” art show will also be held.

At the awards ceremony, which will be held at 6 p.m. in Art Building F, room 108, students will be presented with honorable mentions and first, second and third place. Scholarships will be awarded in the art auditorium..

The juried student exhibition opened on April 7 and will run through May 1.
