New pieces will be mixed in with previously presented choreography during one of the final dance concerts to be presented on the UTC Mainstage Theater this semester.
The Resonant Dance Spectrum Concert will feature choreography by the SHSU dance faculty and students from Thursday, May 1, through Saturday, May 3. All shows begin at 8 p.m. with a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday.
Associate Dean Dana Nicolay will premiere his new work, “Institutions of the Spirit.”
“As an artist I value personal experience supremely,” Nicolay said. “Each individual life is a unique expression of divine creativity and should be lived as such. Yet, in isolation, our lives become meaningless.”
Meagan Condon will present a piece entitled, “Mind-Body Divorce” which was inspired by a Parkinson-afflicted grandfather and his relationship with his wife.
A piece entitled, “One Step Closer” will be presented by Marian Hart. Both Condon and Hart represented SHSU at the American College Dance Festival this year where they presented these works.
Older works will be presented by Cindy Gratz, Ph.D., entitled, “Cheval” and “Afterimages,” which was selected by the ACDFA for presentation at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., in 1994.
Panelists at the ACDFA suggested that Gratz go into a different line of work aside from choreography when she presented her “Grapeleaves” and “Gunracks” performances, which will also be part of the Resonant Dance Spectrum concert.
Other works in the production include a piece by Charles, two new works by Visiting Assistant Professor Hilary Bryan and a reinterpreted version of the famous romantic ballet, Pas de Quatre, by dance coordinator Jennifer Pontius.
Tickets are $8 for general admission and $5 for students with I.D. and seniors.
