Before classes even began, the Rec Sports Department welcomed students back to Huntsville with a host of events, beginning with a Block Party and a Beach Bash.
More than 700 students ended summer and kicked off the school year on a high note with the Block Party on Saturday, followed by the Beach Bash in the Rec Center pool on Sunday night.
“It all went very well,” Keith Edmonds of the Rec Sports Department said. “This was our third year for Block Party and second for the Beach Bash. It was the best it’s ever been.”
During Beach Bash, students were treated to free snow cones, Henna tattoos and a showing of “Fools Gold” on the pool-side movie screen.
The night was capped off with a raffle for prizes such as digital photo frames, portable DVD players and iPods. The prizes were provided by the Rec Sports Department and Student Activities.
While Rec Sports Welcome Week activities concluded Sunday night, the fun is just beginning. Open sign-ups for intramural sports began Monday as well as a Wellness Schedule of classes that are offered at the Rec Center and HKC.
“We just want everyone to come out and have fun,” Edmonds said. “Come out, jump in and play out.”
