Was it really a good thing to completely destroy a small D-II school in the opening game of the 2008 football season? History says it really does not matter, unless you are the University of Michigan in the 2007 season losing to Appalachian State in the first game of the season and never recovering. But luckily we did not have the same fate. But let’s not get our hopes up too high after the win. After all, it was a school most of us had never heard of.

With the 58-14 victory over East Central Oklahoma things looked real well, but are we going to get our hopes up too high? It was a pretty boring game in the second half with the first team not in because SHSU established a record for most points scored in a half for the university. Not to take anything away from the backups but with the exception of some great defense, there was not any excitement after the first half.

We saw Rhett Bomar, whom we watched last year before going down with an injury, when he led the team to a score on every possession of the first half. We were watching everything we wanted to see, and more. I just hope to see it the rest of the year.

Another thing that looked great was the lack of penalties. The first game is a game filled with excitement and nervousness, and being we only had 3 penalties for a total of 41 yards, speaks volumes about how well the team was prepared.

We will see where we stand in the upcoming weeks after facing an easy opponent in the first game. We square off with Prairie View A&M, who had their last winning season in 1976, on September 13th in Huntsville. Our hopes should be high after the laugher we had on Thursday.
