Dear Members of the Campus Community:It is with a profound sense of gratitude that I recognize the efforts of the dozens of dedicated volunteers who provided essential support and compassionate assistance to those who resided on our campus due to being displaced by hurricane Ike. The efforts of these individuals were remarkable and indicative of the spirit and warmth that make me so honored and proud to serve as president of this grand old university.
I have heard from Texas State University System Chancellor Charles Matthews, members of our Board of Regents, and community leaders, all of whom are very much aware of and impressed by the dedication and service of our campus’s volunteers. In addition to serving others, these individuals have brought deserved recognition to Sam Houston State.
Times like these should remind us all that caring and service to others is a longstanding tradition at this very special university.
