According to a news release on GoBearkats.com, Sam Houston’s own Rhett Bomar has recently accepted an invitation to play in the East-West All-Star Game, taking place on January 19, 2009.
As far as the East-West Shrine Game goes, it is simply not another football game. In fact, it is “the premier football All-Star game in America.”
However, the true purpose of the showcase game is to support Shriners Hospital for Children. Since 1925, the game has helped raise money for public awareness of the availabiltiy of expert orthopedic and burn care at no cost. As of today, the showcase games have raised more than $14 million dollars.
Looking at the sports aspect of the game, there are many notable players participating. Many of the top players from all the college divisions will be there.
It is only fitting that Bomar be asked to attend, considering that as of October 27, Bomar had 1,790 total yards, with 17 touchdowns, and only six interceptions.
The All-Star game will be played in Houston, Texas.
