The Lady Bearkats pulled a huge upset as they beat SLC-West division leader Lamar on Tuesday night.
Following kill leader Anna Ferguson, who totaled 17, the Bearkats downed downed the Cardinals in five sets, winning 25-19 16-25 25-23 19-25 15-12.
Despite losing the second match, SHSU managed to do their best to hold off the surge of the Cardinals in the first three sets.
The fifth set however appeared to seem all but lost for the Bearkats. Despite being in the hole 5-1 at the beginning, Sam Houston maganged to fight their back to an eventual 11-11 tie. Finding a way to rack up four points, the Bearkats managed to squeeze away the win.
The win upped Sam Houston State’s overall record to 13-17 and 8-6 in Southland Conference play.
As for the Cardinals, the leaders of the West fell to an overall record of 13-10 and 11-3 in SLC play.
The Lady Bearkats can be seen again tonight as they take on Central Arkansas at Johnson Coliseum at 7 p.m.
