Diversity Leadership Conference approaches, graffiti wall set up for on-campus participation

Registration has begun for the 5th annual Diversity Leadership Conference entitled P.O.P. Culture, People Overcoming Perception. The conference will be hosted by Diversity Council and the Office of Multicultural and International Student Services’ on Feb. 20-21.

The two-day event is comprised of several training and awareness workshops. Friday’s itinerary includes registration, an opening banquet, and the career fair. Saturday’s schedule includes the workshops and a closing awards banquet.

This year’s speakers are diversity speaker Stan Pearson II, critically acclaimed playwright Michael Fosberg, etiquette speaker Candi Harris, singer/songwriter and businesswoman Diedre McCalla, and internationally renowned keynote speaker Andres Lara.

Students will be able to receive Multicultural Awareness Certification after completing these workshops. Certificates will be presented at the closing banquet that evening.

Participants will also get the opportunity to network with leaders and sponsors. They are encouraged to bring resumes and business cards, as well as observe professional dress codes.

Any students or organizations that are interested in presenting at the conference are asked to submit a workshop presenter application which can be found on the M.I.S.S. webpage Volunteer applications for those interested can be found on the webpage as well.

Students are encouraged to submit registration forms early, because those that register before Feb. 6 will receive free passes. For students who register after that date, the cost will be $20. For non-SHSU students, early registration is $40 dollars. After January 23, the cost is $50. Late registration will cost $55.
