Loss to Islanders puts Kats 3-3 in SLC

The Sam Houston State Bearkats lost to the Texas A&M Islanders in Corpus Christi on Saturday, 88-76.

The surges put forth by the Bearkats were not enough to stave off a loss.

From the start of the first half, the Islanders gained and maintained the lead, eventually going ahead 25-7 in the middle of the first half. However, a 30-17 run in the final ten minutes of the first half eventually pulled the Bearkats to a 42-37 deficit.

At the start of the second half, the Bearkats pulled to within two, thanks to Whitney Smith’s layup nearly three minutes into the half.

But the Isalnders would eventually pull away and never looked back.

Despite the loss, Sam Houston State broke even in the SLC, now standing at 3-3. They are now 6-13 for the season.

Brittany Brooks and Bre Agnew each led in scoringfor the Kats, finishing with 17 points each. Brooks also went 2-for-4 from the three-point line.

Sam Houston State had 37 rebounds on the night, with Agnew leading the way with 10.
