SHSU takes down number 21 LSU

This past weekend, the Bearkat softball team took part in the LSU Tiger Classic.

SHSU started off playing against rival Texas A&M on Friday at 3 p.m. However, this matchup was not the same drama faced during their 14 inning outing. The Aggies jumped on the Kats right from the start. SHSU managed to score three runs in the sixth inning. However, it was not enough to stave off the Aggies, eventually losing 8-3.

SHSU came back Saturday to take on Ohio State. SHSU freshman Tomi Garrison allowed only two runs in the four innings she pitched against the Buckeyes. The Kats and Buckeyes were tied 2-2 all the way to the fifth inning until Ohio State scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead and win the game 6-3.

However, SHSU had their greatest win of the season so far when they beat the LSU Tigers, currently ranked number 21 in Division I softball.

SHSU’s Morgan Mikulin pitched the full eight innings, allowing only four hits, giving LSU a bismal .140 batting average.

The Kat’s game winning run came in the top of the eighth inning when transfer Megan Gegan hit a solo homerun.

SHSU’s Sarah Parich and Morgan Mikulin made the All-Tournament team.
