Sam Houston State University president Dr. James Gaertner, his wife, Nancy Gaertner, and U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady honor the American flag during the National Anthem at the “Grand Opening” of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences Building on Friday afternoon. During the celebration, Texas State University System chancellor Charles Matthews read a poem about Old Main, a building formerly located on the north side of campus near Austin Hall, that burned down in 1982. Brady presented College of Humanities and Social Sciences dean John de Castro with a flag that was flown over the capitol in honor of the grand opening. The 150,000 square-foot building is the largest academic facility on campus.
