Talent show at Huntsville’s Old Town Theater to help benefit Rita B. Huff animal shelter

The Sam Houston State University student organization, Kats in Support of Shelters, will host their first annual talent show tonight at the Old Town Theater on 12th Street. All the proceeds taken in from the talent show will go towards the Rita B. Huff Animal Shelter.

Natalie Cooper, a junior marketing major and president of K.I.S.S., said the main goal of the event is to get students and people of the community involved with the Kats in Support of Shelters group as they raise awareness of battered animals.

“This show is going to be about Sam Houston students coming out and showing their talents,” Cooper said. “We just want people to support their local animal shelter.”

The show will include more than ten performances by SHSU students and will be judged by history professors Dr. Charles Heath and Dr. Jeff Littlejohn. Cooper said prizes include gift certificates to Huntsville-area establishments and free T-shirts. Beverages and snacks will be sold at the show as well.

The doors will open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the show will cost $5 at the door, but can be bought on campus for just $2.

K.I.S.S. began with only a few members, but since their debut last October, the club has now grown to 80 members, making the it one of the largest student organizations on campus.

Along with the help of the Rita B. Huff Animal Shelter, K.I.S.S. has managed to help over 100 homeless animals find a home.
