Job fair to be held at LSC for on-campus work

It’s like giving away free money, wellsomewhat. This Wednesday, September 2, Career Services is hosting its on-campus job fair to help students find on-campus jobs to put that jingle back into their pockets.

The job fair will be held in the Lowman Student Center Atrium from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m, where nine departments will be set up to discuss with students current positions that are needed to be filled. These departments include Annual Fund, Career Services, Computer Services, Residence Life, Financial Aid, Newton Grisham Library, Public Safety Services, Rec. Sports, and Student Activities.

“This is a job fair designed to bring together student job seekers and on-campus departments that are looking to hire work-study and non-work-study students here at SAM,” said Paige Andrews, Career Services Job Fair and Special Events Coordinator. “Jobs are also posted on the Jobs 4 Kats system, but by hosting the job fair we can push visibility of these positions and more importantly, our work-study program in general.”

Students will be able to find out whether they are work-study eligible at the fair as well.

On-campus jobs are very beneficial to students because of their flexible schedules and proximity. “Many students live on-campus and are looking for jobs that are convenient,” said Andrews.

“On-campus employers recognize the students need to excel academically and are more empathetic to their scheduling needs.”

It is extremely important for students to have jobs while in college, especially in this economy, in order to contribute to their rising educational costs.

The National Center for Education Statistics reports that two thirds of all College students have student loan debt after graduation, with an average of $19,237.

Last semester over 600 students showed up to find an on-campus job, and Career Services is hoping for the same turnout, and maybe more, this semester.

Students can log on to Jobs 4 Kats on the Career Services Web site to see which positions are available from each participating department.
