SHSU’s Agricultural, Industrial Sciences To Celebrate 100 Years

“A Path Through History, A Journey To Success” is the theme of the Centennial Celebration of Sam Houston State University’s Department of Agricultural and Industrial Sciences Sept. 25-26.

The event will kick off Friday evening in the Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum with a cocktail reception at 6 p.m. and a dinner and program following at 7 p.m. Humorist Doc Blakely, a 1960 Sam Houston graduate, is the keynote speaker. Tickets are $50, and the deadline for reservations is Sept. 11.

Activities will continue Saturday at the Gibbs Ranch Education and Research Facility with a Cowboy Breakfast at 8:30 a.m., sponsored by SHSU President and Mrs. Jim Gaertner.

Tours and visitation with faculty and students in the department will take place at 9:30 a.m. with a social and entertainment provided by Texas cowboy musicians “The Gillette Brothers” at 11:30 a.m.

A Chuck Wagon Lunch featuring remarks by Texas Commissioner of Agriculture Todd Staples and State Rep. Lois Kolkhorst will be at noon.

Reservations for Saturday’s activities are $35 per person and should also be made by Sept. 11 by calling the Department of Agricultural and Industrial Sciences at 936.294.1216.

The Centennial Celebration is open to graduates, as well as friends of the university and department.
