Lady Bearkats fall to Texas A&M

On Sunday, Sept. 20, the SHSU Women’s soccer team faced off against Texas A&M, hoping to pull off a major upset of the nationally ranked Texas A&M Aggies at Aggie Soccer Stadium. Unfortunately, the Bearkats lost 4-0.

The Aggies controlled possession from the beginning, leaving the Bearkats to defend, taking only two shots throughout the game.

“They did a good job tactically following the plan, [A&M] just eventually broke us down a few times,” said Tom Brown, SHSU head coach.

Goals from the Aggies came in the 12th, 49th, 69th, and 79th minutes. However, Bearkat goalkeeper, Jenny Pence, stopped 17 of the 21 shots on goal that came from the Aggies. Despite giving up four goals, Pence did a great job in goal, punching away several shots, as well as making some diving saves.

“I think they played well, considering they played the No. 13 team in the nation,” Coach Brown said.

Sunday’s loss brings the team to a 2-5-1 record.

Their next game is Friday, Sept. 25 ,in Huntsville vs. Louisiana Tech.

Coach Brown said the focus in the game against the Lady Techsters will be to put pressure on the attack and stay defensively organized, a lesson learned from the 4-0 loss to Texas A&M.
