Professor to pucker up to pig

After losing in a fundraising competition, an SHSU tax accounting professor will have to kiss a pig in front of all of her students.

Beta Alpha Psi, an accounting, finance, and IT honor society, hosted a fundraiser where jars where set up for students to put money in for the professor they wanted to see kiss a pig.

The professor with the most money in their jar is the one who has to kiss the pig and that professor is Diane Green.

“I’m not sure if you win or lose in a competition like that,” Andy Hollingsworth, recorder for Beta Alpha Psi, said. “More students wanted to see Professor Greene kiss a pig than other professors, some say that’s winning and others say its losing.”

The idea of a pig kissing event has created a lot of interest amongst the students, said Hollingsworth.

“We tried to come up with an idea that was easy for students to participate in,” said Hollingsworth. “This is something we are now hoping to make an annual event and get the whole school of business involved.”

The money raised, which is over $700, goes to the Beta Alpha Psi which provides accounting tutoring to students and also brings companies to the university to present seminars. Those seminars are held on Tuesday night and are open to all students.

Students interested in watching the event take place should plan to be outside Smith Hutson Building, on the library side, at 2 p.m. today.
