The writer and director of The Contender will be coming to Sam Houston State University for a question and answer session and a day of workshops. Rod Lurie, a director, producer, writer and journalist, will be on campus from Nov. 1-3, according to a press release from Raven Films.
A screening of The Contender followed by In Conversation and Q&A will take place on Nov. 1 in the Walker Education Center at the Sam Houston Memorial Museum from 5-8 p.m. Professor Peter Roussel will be interviewing Lurie during the question and answer session.
They will be discussing Luries career as a director, producer, writer and journalist. To celebrate the election season and because Lurie created and produced ABCs Commander in Chief, a show about a woman president, they will also be discussing politics. Concessions will be sold in the atrium before and after the film.
Lurie will be doing a workshop with students of all majors on Nov. 2 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in Studio A of the Dan Rather Building. The workshop will start with an interview with an open to the public audience, hosted by Associate Professor Tom Garrett of the Mass Communications Department. The audience will be free to ask Lurie questions after the interview.
Lurie will also be attending the Pink Out Football Game for Breast Cancer Awareness at Bowers Stadium on Nov. 3. President Dana Gibson and Dr. Jean Bodon will host him in the presidents box.
Leading up to the three day event, Raven Films will be hosting viewings of Rod Lurie movies. They will be held in room 306 in the Dan Rather building on the SHSU campus. Beginning Oct. 25, 5-7p.m., with The Last Castle, Oct. 29 5-7 p.m. Resurrecting the Champ Oct. 30 , 6-9 p.m. Straw Dogs, Oct. 31 5-7 p.m. Nothing but the Truth. These screenings are free and open to the public.
Pink Ribbon Raven Shirts will be sold before the game from Oct. 24- Nov. 3. 50% of proceeds from the sale of the shirts will go directly to breast cancer awareness charities.
