Sam Houston football coach Willie Fritz has announced that spring training for the Bearkats will begin Wednesday, March 20 and end on April Thursday 18 with the annual Orange-White spring game.
The team will have 41 lettermen, including 12 starters from the 2012 team that took SHSU to its second consecutive national championship, returning.
The following are the spring training dates:
March 20, 22, 23, 25, 27, 29, 30, April 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, 10 and 15. During weekdays, practice will begin at 3:30 p.m. Saturday practices will start in the morning.
The team will also host special visit days for local high school coaches on March 26 and April 1.
Sam Houston is one of only eight schools inNCAA history to appear in back-to-back national championship games. And in 97 years of football at Sam Houston, no team has ever had consecutive seasons with double digit wins like the teams from 2011 and 2012.
