Softball loses series to UTSA

Sam Houston State softball came out behind this weekend after losing two of three games to the University of Texas at San Antonio this weekend.

The Bearkats now have an overall record of 8-12.

They would get their only win over UTSA on Friday when they defeated them 2-1. Hillary Adams had a solo homerun over the left field wall to get the Bearkats on the score board. First baseman Kim Damian’s RBI single in the fifth inning brought in the winning run.

Shelby Lancaster was in the circle for the game and spread eight hits throughout seven innings, allowing only one run.

UTSA would spring back Saturday taking both games in the double header against the Bearkats.

The Bearkats turned five hits into only two runs for the first game. Starting pitcher Meme Quinn was taken out in the bottom of the fifth after UTSA was able to get three runs across the plate. Amber Neal would come in to close out the game.

During the second game, the Bearkats took the lead in the top of the first 3-0 but were unable to hold on to it after a throwing error with the basses loaded, scoring two. The Bearkats would not be able to take the lead back, losing 4-7.

SHSU will host the Texas State Bobcats on Wednesday for their second home game of the season before they get ready to open conference play on the road Saturday against Southeastern Louisiana.
