Sam Houston State University will be holding the third annual SHSU Night With the Aeros on Saturday, April 13 at the Toyota Center.
The annual event is put on by students enrolled in SHSUs Sport Management graduate program.
It satisfies coursework while providing an entertaining evening for the Sam Houston State community, explained Ryan Bapalac, SHSU professor of Sport Management. Its a win-win all around.
According to the Sam Houston Night with the Aeros website, this years event will start at 3:30 p.m. with a game of Broomball on the ice for SHSU students only, followed by dinner at the Lake House Restaurant.
Students who desire to participate in the Broomball game must pre-register online and bring the completed waiver form with them to the stadium.
Activities for faculty, staff, and alumni will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a VIP meet and greet.
VIPs this year include President Dana Gibson, Coach Willie Fritz, and SHSU alumni Mr. Don Sanders, who will be honored with the Sport Managements Industry Impact Award during the event. The award, which began in 2012, recognizes individuals for their contribution to the sports industry.
A new event this year will be an alumni get together, which will begin at 6 p.m. at the Jack Daniels Bar and Grill.
Each year the Sport Management department works to improve on other events from previous years, said Dr. Bapalac.
The Houston Aeros will face off against the San Antonio Rampage starting at 7:05 p.m.
SHSU-themed activities, including raffles, will take place before, during and after the game.
For those who cant attend, the game, including interviews with President Gibson and Coach Fritz, will also be broadcast live on AM 1070, the Houston Aeros official station.
Tickets for the game are available at discounted prices for students, faculty, staff and alumni. Upper End Zone seats are available for $10 (normally $20) and Center Ice Club seats are available for $30 (normally $45).
Reduced price parking is also available for $5 in the Toyota Tundra garage located next to the arena.
