SHSU football still in Top 5

Sam Houston remains ranked fifth in FCS football in both major polls coming off an impressive 55-17 win over Texas Southern on Saturday.

In the Sports Network poll, released on Monday, there was no change from week-to-week with two-time defending national champions North Dakota State on top unanimously, followed by Eastern Washington, Montana State, and Towson all ahead of Sam Houston State.

However, in the Coaches poll, things look a little different. NDSU is ranked number one but Montana State comes in at number two, then Towson, and finally Eastern Washington in front of SHSU.

SHSU has defeated Montana State in the playoffs each of the last two years en route to their trips to the National Championship game. SHSU also knocked off Eastern Washington last year in the quarter-finals of the playoffs. The two teams meet in a highly anticipated rematch in Huntsville on Sept. 28.

Up next for the Bearkats is The University of the Incarnate Word from San Antonio. UIW is currently transitioning into being a fellow fulltime member of the Southland Conference, and SHSU is one of three opponents from the SLC on their schedule this season.
