Chris Paul is an elite basketball player in every sense of the word. He was the NBA Rookie of the Year for the 2005-2006 season and he lead the league in assists and steals in the 2007-2008 season.
He was a member of the 2008 and 2012 Olympic basketball teams which brought back the gold both years.
However, what he lacks, is an NBA championship.
New Clippers head coach, Doc Rivers lets Paul know that he hasn’t done anything in basketball.
“As professional athletes, you always want someone to push you and motivate you,” Paul said. “The first meeting I had with Doc, he pretty much told me I wasn’t anything.”
However, he believes with Rivers coaching, the Clippers can capture the title.
All-Star forward Blake Griffin is totally healthy entering this season for the first time in his career.
The Clippers added guards J.J. Redick and Darren Collison and forwards Jared Dudleyand Antawn Jamison.
Center DeAndre Jordan and Sixth Man of the Year candidate guard Jamal Crawford are back, Yahoo Sports said.
Paul and Rivers’ relationship will be crucial for the team as they look to raise a championship banner in Los Angeles.
Rivers has coached top players like Paul Pierce, Tracy McGrady, and Shaquille O’Neal, but it doesn’t stop his tough coaching style.
If NBA fans remember, Rivers and his starting point guard, Rajon Rondo butted heads. They had an almost altercation earlier this year after a team meeting because Rondo began cursing at Rivers.
“I don’t subscribe to the theory that they should all be treated the same,” Rivers said. “I think everyone is treated fairly, and that’s how I try to coach.”
Paul knows that Rivers is no pushover.
“He’s not going to baby us, “Paul said to Yahoo Sports. “He is going to treat us like men and he is going to give us that opportunity.”
As Rivers looks to make offensive and defensive changes for the Clippers, one thing is certain: Chris Paul’s increased playing time.
