Kansas State tops Kansas in OT

It may not be Duke versus North Carolina, but the Sunflower Showdown between the Kansas Jayhawks and the Kansas State Wildcats Monday was as intense as it gets in college basketball.

With Kansas State at home, the fans were rocking when the Big 12-leading Jayhawks came to town, and the Wildcats did not disappoint the home crowd with an 85-82 overtime victory. Students rushed the floor in Manhattan as Kansas State was just 3-48 against Kansas since 1994.

According to yahoo news:

Kansas State’s Marcus Foster scored a game-high 20 points, two coming on free throws in the closing seconds of overtime, and helped the Wildcats hold off No. 7 Kansas 85-82 on Monday night.

K-State coach Bruce Weber said:

“It was a team win,” “You come in thinking you need someone to be special to win this game. We had a lot of special.”

This victory for K-State was huge for this team — not only for the team but for the fans and students and rivalry week in general.

Of course this will be a tough pill for Kansas to swallow, but things should be interesting to see how they will bounce back from this rivalry loss.
