The Huntsville Police Department, in partnership with the Walker County District Attorney’s Office, the Walker County Sheriff’s Office and the City of Huntsville Municipal Court announced Tuesday a “no refusal” event for Aug. 28.
HPD Lt. Jim Barnes said additional patrol officers will be on duty “to reduce the number of intoxicated drives on roadways.”
“Our local law enforcement community wants all citizens on the roadways to be safe, and we hope this initiative contributes to that goal,” HPD Chief Kevin Lunsford said in a press release. “We have participated in ‘no refusal’ initiatives during the last several years with a good deal of success.”
As a part of the event the District Attorney’s Office and Municipal Court Judge John Gains will be available to issue search warrants for blood of those who refuse to participate in a breath test. Barnes encourages people to have options to prevent drunken driving.
“Before going out, we encourage people to choose a designated driver, a person within a group who agrees to not drink alcoholic beverages and stay sober for the safety of others,” Barnes said in a press release.
