Sam Houston State women’s golf holds a tie for second place at the University of Alabama – Birmingham Fall Beach Bash after one round held at the Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club in Gulf Shores, Al. on Monday.
Senior Alisa White is leading the entire field after shooting a 70 in the opening round.
“The team’s attitude is positive going to the last event because of our strong finishes of second, first, second in the last three events,” assistant coach Tommy Chain said.
The Bearkats finished the first round with a team total of 296, leaving the Kats only a stroke behind leader Western Kentucky and tied with Houston Baptist.
White, looking to add her first fall win to the resume, is two-under par with sophomore Paige Nelson close behind, tied for fifth, at one-over. Sophomore Brooke Fouts shot a 76 in the first round and stands tied for 23rd. Junior Nicole Budnik is tied for 28th after shooting a 77 and freshman Sarah Black rounds out the Bearkats with her 78 score, leaving her tied for 39th.
“The girls are all positive and looking forward to tomorrow’s round with expectations of getting our second win of the fall semester,” Chain said.
Three schools – including West Florida, Louisiana Monroe and the aforementioned Houston Baptist – are all within three strokes of the Kats.
The last day of the two-day tournament will begin Tuesday morning, wrapping up the last rounds of the fall season for SHSU.
