Flipped car causes power outage for parts of Huntsville

Power remains out for parts of Huntsville after a car flipped on its side and struck an Energy utility pole.

An Entergy employee said power could be restored as late as 1 a.m., although their outage website currently says 11:30 p.m. Nearly 3,000 residents are without power.

Huntsville Fire Department responded to the 4000 block of Sam Houston Ave. where the accident occurred. Witnesses said the driver was conscious and taken to the hospital.

“She’s conscious and everything,” Stephanie Childs, senior kinesiology major, said. “We were in our house down there and the lights went off and then we heard this and so we drove down here to see every thing.”

The outage extends from Montgomery Road to Boetcher Road from Sam Houston Avenue to Interstate 45. Brookeplace Apartments, Gateway Apartments and the Jolly Fox still have power.

There was a man laying motionless in the street, what happened to him? The manager from The Dollar General was holding his head and waiting for paramedics while the driver was awake and screaming about her car.
