TAMU-CC is second in SLC standings with a 6-2 record. The Islanders are also second in the conference in points allowed. They limit opponents to 58.2 points per game while they score 61.8 PPG.

Senior forward Olivia Fouty leads the Islanders’ post with 12.8 PPG. TAMU-CC’s sophomore forward Camesha Davis helps Fouty down low by averaging 10 PPG. The Lady Kats’ post are going to have to play physical in the paint with Fouty. The Kats post will have to find a better job boxing out and limiting offensive rebounds. The lack of defensive rebounding is hurting the Bearkats by the opposition getting second chance points.

The Bearkat defense needs to limit the opponent’s three pointers by playing better perimeter defense. Junior guard Shay Weaver leads the Islanders in points with 16.8 and also shoots 33.3 percent from three-point range. The Kats need to force the Islanders’ shooters to put the ball on the floor and not get good shot attempts.

SHSU will have to shoot the ball extremely well against the Islanders. The Islanders have the top-shot defense in the SLC. They hold the opposition to 36 percent shooting for the game.

Junior guard Shernise Robertson will continue to show her leadership Saturday as they play a very good Islander defense. Robertson needs to set the tone early by making shots and getting her teammates involved. Sophomore guard Taylor Dorsey will look to continue taking some of the scoring load of Robertson.

The Kats’ offense needs to have good ball movement and quality offensive possessions. The Kats also need to cut down on the turnovers and make shots.

The game will tipoff at 2 p.m. at Johnson Coliseum.
