SGA candidacy filing commences

Candidacy filing for Sam Houston State University’s student government began yesterday and will continue through 5 p.m. on March 20.

All students who are interested in running for the upcoming SGA election to determine office positions fall 2015 through spring 2016 must meet the deadline as no late paperwork will be accepted.

Eligible candidates for the senate must have at least a 2.0 GPA and at least 12 hours at SHSU under their belts. Officers must have at least a 2.5 GPA and must have at least three long-term semesters at SHSU as experience.

Candidates are not required to have any prior affiliation with or experience in SGA.

All candidates who are planning to file for a position in SGA must attend one of two mandatory meetings offered, either on March 23 or March 24 at 5:30 p.m. in the SGA office, room 326, of the Lowman Student Center.

Candidates may begin their campaigns at the conclusion of the meeting March 24. Prospective senators and officers are advised to obtain their own copy of the election code in which all rules and regulations regarding campaigning can be found. Any violation of the election code can result in disqualification from the election.

Elections will be held via SHSU student emails April 7-8 and final results will be released April 10.
