Red Bull Paper Planes contest visits campus

Students designed, crafted and launched paper airplanes across the Recreational Sports Center’s Basketball Court 3 Wednesday evening as part of the Red Bull Paper Wings SHSU qualifying rounds. Sophomore nutrition major Nickolas Montez (center) placed first in the Longest Airtime contest, and freshman animal science major Benny Conn (right) took gold in the Longest Distance category.

SHSU falls into the South Region of the Red Bull Paper Wings contest. The top scorer in each category of each region will then advance to the World Finals in Salzburg, Austria next month. While neither Montez nor Conn broke the region’s record in their categories, junior studio art major Patrick O’Brien (left) placed first in the In-Flight Acrobatics category. He can now submit a video of his paper plane to a round of online voting for a chance to win in the region and advance to Austria.
