Kats take series against top-25 Oklahoma

Sam Houston State baseball travels to Houston today to finish the home-and-home series with the Houston Cougars after taking the weekend series with Oklahoma.

The Cougars stole game one between UH and SHSU in March. The Cougars rallied in the eighth inning with 14 runs to take the commanding 17-7 victory in Huntsville.

The Cougars are 29-15 for the season including 18-5 at home. UH is coming off a series win over South Florida this past weekend.

The Kats have the advantage at the plate batting .283 compared to the .267 of the Cougars. The Cougars have hit 33 homeruns this season, 13 from junior Chris Iriart. The Kats have recorded 16 homeruns this year, five from junior Spence Rahm.

Both teams have a similar ERA as the Cougars have a team ERA of 3.42 compared to the 3.46 of the Kats.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at Cougar Field as SHSU looks to steal a victory in Houston to tie up the season series.

The Bearkats head into the game 10-2 in their previous 12 games and move to 24-21 in the season after defeating the Sooners this past weekend in Norman, Oklahoma.

In game one on Friday, the Kats tied the game in the top of the seventh inning but gave up a solo homerun in the bottom of the inning as the Sooners took the 3-2 win. The Kats tied the series with a 4-3 win in game two in an 11-inning battle that came down to a late Sooner error.

The Kats won the series taking the rubber match 8-5 Sunday. The Kats scored four runs in the fifth and sixth inning as the Kats survived a late push by the Sooners in the eighth and ninth inning.
The Kats have 11 games remaining before the Southland Conference tournament as SHSU is tied for third in the SLC.
