All American Job Fair Coming to Sam November 10th

Students in search of a career are in luck. Career Services is holding the All American Job Fair on Tuesday, November 10 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the LSC ballroom.

Mitch Parker, Sam Houston’s Career services marketing and events coordinator, talked about some of the advantages for students attending the event. He explains what and whom Bearkats can expect to see at the fair.

“This is a Job Fair for all majors,” Parker said. “We have had a tremendous response from employers. We are at room capacity with 60 employers wanting to share their information and potentially hire you!”

Since the job fair is “All American,” it would only be right to give thanks to the people who fought for America. In order to show gratitude, special time has been allocated exclusively for the men and women who have served in the military. All veterans are highly encouraged to go. Parker talked about the special accommodations they have planned for all veterans.

“The All American Job Fair is scheduled the day before Veterans Day, a national holiday,” Parker said. “As a way to say “thank you” to our Veteran students for their service to our country, we are honoring them by giving them VIP access to the employers from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.”

Students should try to present themselves in the best way possible. Mr. Parker gives some tips on how students can represent themselves to their employer prospects.

“To maximize your marketability and make that important first impression to an employer, bring plenty of copies of your resume and dress professionally,” Parker said.

Parker also says that students should get to know their employers before going to the fair. This way they can get ahead of the competition and make a good first impression for themselves.

“View the list of attending organizations at the career services web page,” Parker said. “Research the company(s) so you will be knowledgeable of their products and/or services.   Strategize your time and approach by noting the positions they are hiring for and/or the majors that they are targeting.”

Over 60 employers will be at the job fair. The employer’s attending will come in a wide variety. The event will have many different businesses represented, food services, retail sales, local police stations, nonprofit organizations, social services and many more. Full time, part time, and internship opportunities will be there.
