Have you ever wondered what happened to your favorite childhood snack? Products are constantly changing or being taken off the market completely. If you are a “90s baby,” then some of these items may sound familiar to you!
Heinz EZ Squirt
What better way for kids to enjoy their food than with colorful ketchup! Heinz released EZ Squirt Ketchup in 2000 and sales declined after many parents realized they don’t want colorful ketchup. Colors green, purple, orange, pink and blue were on the market and when mixed together made a distasteful brown color. This product was discontinued in 2006.
Nestle’s Wonder Ball
One of my personal favorites, the Nestle’s Wonder Ball was a fun new way to enjoy chocolate. Originally released in 1997, these wonder balls has small toy prizes inside! After realizing the choking hazard issue with a non-food item inside the ball of chocolate, Nestle rereleased this product on the market with a candy prize inside. The candy inside had Disney characters and other themes that were also showcased on the box it came in. This product was discontinued in 2004 when the brand was sold to Frankford Company.
Post Oreo O’s Cereal
Introduced in 1998, Oreo O’s cereal was one of the best ways to eat Oreos and milk! Made by Post, this cereal can still found in other parts of the world but not North America. Discontinued in 2007, many people still wonder if they will ever return to the market.
General Mills Squeezit Punch
This fruit flavored soft drink was offered in a large variety of flavors including a mystery flavor. From the 1988, Squeezits were sold up until 2001 for an unknown reason. At the peak of their sales, in 1996 General Mills unveiled the first “interactive” juice. You drop a provided “color pellet” in the drink and watch the color change! Too bad we can’t enjoy these anymore.
Doritos 3D
There is a long list of discontinued Doritos flavors but Doritos 3D was one product that was a little different. Introduced in the early 2000’s these air-filled Doritos were available in many different flavors. 3D Doritos were discontinued in a short few years after for an unknown reason.
Sprite Remix
You many have heard of a new Sprite Remix drink in today’s market but they are not exactly as they were before. Right now you can find Lebron James Sprite Remix drink and a revived flavor Tropical Sprite, missing the word Remix on the label. Originally, flavors such as Tropical, Berry Clear, and Aruba Jam were released to the market in 2003 and all discontinued in 2005. Hopefully Sprite will soon be rereleasing some more of their products.
French Toast Crunch
General Mill’s French Toast Crunch cereal was originally introduced in 1995 and discontinued in 2006. Due to consumers’ demand, General Mills decided to bring back the popular cereal this past January! If you can’t find it at your local grocery store, you can request for your store to carry it. This shows the power of the people’s voice.
M&M Crispy
Another item reintroduced to the market is M&M Crispy. Now found in a green packaging, M&M Crispy were originally in a blue packaging released in 1999 and discontinued in 2005 in the U.S. Due to popularity, this candy was brought back to the market at the beginning of 2015.
Shark Bites
Produced by Betty Crocker, Shark Bites were fruit snacks that was in everyone’s lunchbox. Although there are many variations of this fruit snack on store shelves now, it is unclear what happened to the original colorful sharks. The last time these were seen on the shelves were in the early 2000s.
Hot Cheetos Asteroids
If you didn’t eat these as a child, you were missing out on life! Hot Cheetos Asteroids were balls of Hot Cheetos puffs in a plastic cylinder similar to Pringles. The lid for these Cheetos were about the size of one measuring cup so it could be used as a bowl. When bought out by Frito-Lay, they were repackaged by 100 calorie sized bags some time in 2007.
